Selfie Farol – Cabo Mondego Lighthouse Viewpoint

Selfie Farol, officially known as Miradouro sobre o Farol, is a beautiful coastal viewpoint located along the scenic mountain road descending from Serra da Boa Viagem towards Buarcos and Figueira da Foz. Perched high above the Atlantic Ocean, this viewpoint offers magnificent panoramic views of the deep blue sea, the rugged coastline and the historic Cabo Mondego Lighthouse below. The current lighthouse was constructed between 1917 and 1922 and remains one of the distinctive landmarks of this part of Portugal's Silver Coast. Another fascinating feature of the viewpoint is its perspective over the former coal mining and cement production area of Cabo Mondego. Once an important industrial site, this area is now part of the region's industrial heritage. The viewpoint is particularly recognizable thanks to its themed “Selfie Farol” photo installation, designed to create a memorable backdrop for visitors taking pictures against the spectacular Atlantic scenery. For cyclists, this is an excellent place to stop while exploring Serra da Boa Viagem. The viewpoint is accessible directly from the paved mountain road, making it suitable for road, gravel and MTB cyclists. Whether you're climbing from Figueira da Foz or enjoying the descent towards the coast, the scenery makes this stop well worth your time. Please note that the decorative photo installation has suffered some damage, as observed during our visit, so its appearance may differ from older photographs. The natural panoramic views remain the main attraction. With its combination of ocean views, lighthouse scenery, industrial history and a distinctive photo spot, Selfie Farol is one of those places that makes cycling along Portugal's Atlantic coast especially memorable.
