About this place

Located in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi District near the Lisova subway station, Kyoto Park (Парк Кіото) is one of the city's most unique cultural and recreational landmarks. Established in 1972 immediately after the signing of the twin-city friendship agreement between Kyiv and Kyoto, the park was designed in collaboration with Japanese landscape architects to reflect traditional Japanese aesthetics and philosophy. The highlight of the park is its famous Sakura Alley, planted in 2011, which stretches for nearly a kilometer and holds a record as one of the longest cherry blossom avenues in the world. Every spring, usually around late April to early May, thousands of residents and tourists visit the park to experience hanami—the Japanese tradition of flower viewing—as the trees bloom in vibrant shades of pink and white. Beyond its floral beauty, Kyoto Park offers authentic architectural and natural features: Traditional Japanese Elements: The park includes a pagoda-style monument, authentic Japanese stone lanterns (tōrō), multi-tiered rock compositions, and a tranquil pond with a decorative bridge. Flora: Alongside the iconic sakuras, visitors can enjoy Japanese maples, centuries-old pines, visual greenery, and seasonal floral displays. Amenities: Pathways, quiet seating zones, and open green lawns make it a popular spot for morning strolls, picnics, photography, and peaceful relaxation away from the bustling city center. Kyoto Park serves not only as a favored neighborhood park but also as a living symbol of cultural exchange, friendship, and enduring connection between Ukraine and Japan.
